Hey, my name‘s Robert, and I’m a rock photographer living in Salt Lake City. My love for music began driving around with my dad in Ford Ranger listening to CDs of ”Weird Al“ Yankovic‘s “Running With Scissors” and “The Food Album”. As I got older, my dad and I would go to the library once or twice a week to find more CD’s to add to our iTunes collection. That was how I first heard so many albums by The Beatles, Daft Punk, Led Zeppelin, Vampire Weekend, The Cars, David Bowie, Weezer, and countless others. A classic suburban white boy musical upbringing!
When I was 13, my dad drove me downtown to Randy’s Records and I bought my very first vinyl record, an original pressing of “Beatles ‘65!“ From that day onward I was obsessed with going to the record store and spending most of the money I earned on building my record collection. Throughout middle school, my best friend and I would take the Trax train up to Randy’s as often as our wallets would allow. During my high school days, I would make a habit of skipping seminary class, and that same friend would drive us up to Randy’s to see what was new in the bins that day.
A week or two before the end of my senior year, I was offered a job at the record store! There I made many lasting friendships and was exposed to the local music scene in Salt Lake City. A few years later, I found my first 35mm camera for a good deal, and brought it with me everywhere I went! Naturally, I brought it to a lot of concerts and found out how much fun it is taking concert photos. I started sharing those photos with the bands and artists I shot, and I really enjoyed being able to show my gratitude to them for giving me such a great show.
